BMW winter wheels: sizing, brake clearance and xDrive fitment
A BMW winter wheel package needs more than the right diameter. The exact model, brake package, wheel dimensions and tire specifications all matter. Start with your vehicle details before choosing the wheel design or comparing prices.
Why the model badge is not enough
Two BMWs carrying a similar badge can have different brake equipment and wheel requirements. A package listed for a 3 Series should not be assumed to fit every generation, trim or modified example. Provide the year, model, trim and VIN if available, along with details of any brake or suspension changes.

Wheel diameter is only one measurement
Diameter and width work together with offset, bolt pattern, centre bore and brake clearance. Matching the bolt pattern alone does not establish that a wheel is suitable. Load capacity and the correct mounting hardware also belong in the check.
A smaller wheel may be an option for some cars, but it must clear the brakes and be paired with an appropriate tire size. Do not assume that every BMW can go down one or two inches for winter. Send the front and rear tire sizes from the car as well as its model details.
Square and staggered winter setups
A square setup uses the same tire size at all four positions; a staggered setup uses different front and rear sizes. Whether either arrangement is suitable depends on the specific vehicle and approved combination. There is no single winter-size rule for every xDrive BMW.
A tire’s size marking does not answer every compatibility question. The selected front and rear combination, tire construction and condition need to suit the drivetrain. We confirm the intended combination rather than applying a generic internet percentage tolerance to all xDrive systems.
What the BMW star marking means
BMW describes its star-marked tires as developed and tested for BMW applications. That identification is different from the mountain-and-snowflake winter marking. Ask which tire specification is actually included in the quote; do not assume an aftermarket package contains BMW star-marked tires unless it is stated.
If your vehicle has particular manufacturer requirements or existing warranty conditions, bring those details into the discussion before choosing the package. The order should identify the tire make, model, size and specification clearly.
Sensors, hardware and the fitted total
Our package price includes four wheels, four tires, mounting, balancing and installation. New hardware adds $75 per package where required, and optional TPMS adds $340 per package. All prices are in CAD before tax. Ask how the selected sensor option relates to the monitoring system fitted to your car.
For a useful quote, include the year, model, trim, current front and rear tire sizes, any modifications and your preferred wheel style. If you have a current written local quote for an identical, in-stock package, send it before purchasing for review under our price-match conditions.
