Improvements at Foreign Automotive
Foreign Automotive has spent over three decades serving European and exotic car owners across Ontario. As the shop has grown, we've made consistent investment in the facility, the equipment, and the team — each round of improvement aimed at delivering better service, more capability, and a more professional ownership experience for our clients. This post captures the most recent improvements we've made at our Kitchener-Waterloo facility and what they mean for the cars we look after.
A New Facility at 30 Adam Ferrie Place
The biggest change in recent years was the move to our purpose-built facility at 30 Adam Ferrie Place in Kitchener. Expanded service bays, dedicated lifts for exotic and oversized SUVs, climate-controlled customer waiting, and a layout designed specifically around how European and exotic service workflows actually run. The space lets us schedule more concurrent work without compromising on quality or attention.
In-House MAHA AWD Dynamometer
One of the most significant equipment additions has been our MAHA all-wheel-drive chassis dynamometer installed on site. Most independent shops have to send tuned cars to a remote dyno facility or skip the verification step entirely. We don't. Every ECU tune, every exhaust install, every performance build done at our shop gets a baseline and post-install dyno run — so customers see actual gain numbers from their specific car instead of catalogue claims. The MAHA also lets us properly diagnose drivability issues under load, something a road test alone can't replicate.
Factory Diagnostic Platforms
We invest in factory-grade diagnostic equipment for every brand we service. BMW ISTA+, Mercedes XENTRY STAR, Audi/VW ODIS, Porsche PIWIS, Land Rover/Jaguar SDD and Pathfinder, Ferrari SD3, and McLaren-specific tools all live on the shop floor. The result: when something complex needs diagnosing, we read what the dealer reads, and we resolve the issue without having to refer cars to the brand dealership.
Specialist Partnerships
Beyond equipment, we've built specialist partnerships with key suppliers and shops in the industry: Thorney Motorsport for McLaren expertise, Eurocharged for ECU calibration, LN Engineering for Porsche IMS work, Akrapovič as one of the largest dealers in North America, Vossen Wheels, Soul Performance, Fabspeed, AWE Tuning, Dundon Motorsport, and others. Each partnership brings deeper knowledge, faster parts access, and better warranty support to our customers.
Team Growth and Training
Equipment matters, but technicians matter more. The team at Foreign Automotive has grown alongside the facility, and we invest continuously in factory training, certifications, and the kind of hands-on experience that turns a good technician into a specialist. Most of our techs have over a decade on European platforms specifically, and many have dealer backgrounds where they handled warranty work for the brands we now service independently.
